A note on Garage Door Torsion Springs

 A builders grade garage door is installed with torsion springs that provide a minimum of 10,000 to 15,000 cycles and are good for 5 to 10 years depending on usage

 One cycle is a single opening and closing sequence

 

 If your main entry point is through your garage door, the life of the torsion spring may be greatly reduced because of excessive use



 If the weight of the garage door is increased by adding glass, additional insulation, or even several coats of paint it may require stronger springs

 

 Additionally, springs in highly humid environments, tend to have a significantly shorter cycle life

 

 

Carriage doors and 18x7' or 16x8' insulated doors

require much stronger springs

and will cost more than a standard 16x7' garage door springs
